Coworking centers have become an almost indispensable tool for self-employed and start-ups, especially in cities like Barcelona. They allow a perfectly equipped space for work and, why not, replace the loneliness of professionals who work alone at home for a work environment, while avoiding the interruptions and distractions that are continuously present at home. Not to mention the savings of sharing the space instead of paying one hundred percent of the rent. Another advantage is the possibility of making interesting contacts, as well as the escape from the isolation that sometimes threatens to turn “free” lancers into “sociopaths”. Of course, virtually all coworking has the necessary services: scanning, printing, fiber optics, etc.
In this article, however, we want to focus on another function of the co-working space, which is to provide shelter to those itinerant people, professionals or tourists, who need these spaces in a more or less sporadic way, perhaps just for a few hours or for a few days. Not many years ago, they resorted to cyber-cafés but obviously the coworking spaces present clear advantages over these types of establishments. Let’s go with some of the most recommended in Barcelona:
BCNewt is a network of sustainable spaces located in the 22@ district of innovation. From 25 euros a day, it offers very bright work spaces, with an outside patio, with access to a community of 100 entrepreneurs housed in three premises, with a total of 400 square meters. The characteristic feature of the BCNewt spaces is the design with recycled materials and the use of 100% renewable energy. In addition, it offers a fairly diversified community, where 50% of the coworkers are local and the other 50% foreigners.
Coco-office: In the neighborhood of Sant Antoni, in the street of Manso, number 17 is a small and informal space, where you can rent an office or share a table with other free-lancers. The rates are 4 euros for the first hour, 3 from the second and the full day for 15 euros. They have a scanning and printing service. They give you access to the kitchen, with free coffee and snacks. It is open between nine in the morning and ten in the evening. There is a bicycle storage facility.
The worktel network has more than 30 coworking spaces in Barcelona, some even located in hotels. Less informal but with the perfect equipment and, of course, many of their centers offer free coffee (coffee can be considered almost like a working tool!). The prices vary according to the chosen center, and start at 5 euros per hour for a shared job, with a great location for travelers, in the lobby of the Eurostars hotel in Barcelona, that is, in the same AVE (from 9 in the morning to 6 in the afternoon). Spaces can be selected and reserved in advance via the worktel website.
Apocapoc Barcelona, located in the neighborhood of Born (Passatge Hort dels Velluters 5), proposes a rate of 17 euros per day (8:30 to 17 hours from Monday to Friday). It is a building equipped with recycled furniture, all very ecological, high ceilings and a friendly and almost familiar atmosphere and, above all, a fantastic terrace where to relax when it becomes necessary.
With 2 local centers in Barcelona, one in Bailén, 11 and another in Sant Pau, 47 MOB Barcelona has a professional and collaborative environment 9: 30/19: 30, equipped with the latest technologies, included 3D printer, even have an Afterwork Club. It is not possible to rent by the hour: a full day costs 20 euros. Hours: 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
And, to finish, and for those who are going to extend their stay a bit, we can recommend Betahaus. For 99 euros a month offers a job in a spacious and bright building, different types of chairs and work chairs to suit every taste and every need, all in a professional environment, and with the possibility of catering service included. It is in the popular district of Gracia, concretely in the street Vilafranca number 7.
